Moscow’s Pop/Funk outfit, Pompeya, have officially released their highly anticipated EP Night. This record follows up their successful US debut LP, Tropical, and the critically acclaimed Tropical Remixed.
Night showcases the quartets unique diversity in style meshing disco, new wave and pop, while keeping their cool factor and traditional tropical accent. Title track “Night” is a good indication of the bands unmistakable sound, while paying homage to retro classic vibes. Spin said the new wavy chorus vocals “would fit nicely in an early-’80s Duran Duran track.”
“Does” incorporates timeless guitar riffs, fat bass licks and infectious vocals. Originally premiering on Indie Shuffle, “(Does) puts you in the perfect headspace for dancing, working, and having a generally good time…It’s almost like recounting a childhood spent moving around from place to place, rather than growing up in one place. Newness and excitement, yet simultaneously familiar.”
With roots firmly established overseas including extensive touring and TV appearances, Pompeya are broadening their reach to the U.S. and beyond with their distinct blend of 70s disco, 80s New Wave, and 90s indie rock. Recently, the band’s debut album Tropical received praise across influential outlets including XLR8R, Thump (VICE), Under The Radar Mag, MTV Hive, Interview Mag, Earmilk, Gotta Dance Dirty, Dancing Astronaut, and DUMMY Mag.
